It will it doesn't go through the plug anymore.
You might have noted, I know the circuitry well
I can tell you that mine neither goes thru the connector or the bulkhead connector. Instead the feed comes thru the firewall from the battery via a grommet to a terminal block where the red wire that goes to the ignition switch and when it comes back out of the switch, it goes thru another terminal block where the underhood stuff connects.
Fixed all the hard starting problems hot, cold, or in between. Nothing rare about my car and I don't care whether it is wired like the factory did it, or not. I just looked at the diagrams to see how it worked and then wired it like a street rod.
I think what happens is that the terminals in the bulkhead are too small to begin with and then after a period of time, they oxidize and then burn which creates a high resistance connection which then puts a load on all the other connectors. The ones on the column were also smoked on mine.
Now it starts instantly and the alternator sees a truer voltage so it does not work nearly as hard trying to charge a battery that it thinks is not charged...makes the alternator and battery last longer.
