The cap shouldn't be vented. That would defeat the purpose of the emissions equipment. By drilling a hole in the cap, you basically bypassed the canister and the separator. Now fuel vapors will exit the cap instead of being stored in the canister to be burned later. If you want to leave it that way it's up to you.
