Does a 4 speed have neutral safety switch
« on: August 03, 2014 - 10:21:12 PM »
I bought a 71 cuda 4 speed car that has been taken apart and is missing
A lot of parts.  I have been working on the wiring.  Does a 4 speed have a
Neutral safety switch or is it called something different.  I have looked on
Yearone and they show them only for automatic.  Yearone has a switch for backup
Lights.  Any help will be great. Thanks

In 1971 they used a "clutch pedal safety switch"...The clutch needs to be depressed in order to start the car.
You will be depressed when you see the price of the switch. :22yikes:

The car can run without one by grounding the spade on the starter relay.

Thank you.  After I ask the question I found and old thread on here.  Love this web site.   I went and
Looked and I have the switch on pedal and green wire coming thru the firewall.  I need to figure out  how it gets connected.  Thanks again.

the brown wire from the start relay connects to the pedal switch & grounds through that so the car will start with the clutch pedal depressed

The starter relay should have two spades on the bottom. The one closest to the firewall gets the yellow wire, and the one closest to the grill gets the green wire from the clutch switch.

True that. Off topic a bit but when I was working pumping gas in 1974 a guy waiting in line in a 69 Road Runner ran out of gas. When there was a spot at the pumps for him he just put her in first and ran it in on the starter motor!

My friend could have been seriously injured by his 67 Dart convertible. One day while working under the hood in the garage, something got crossed and the car started cranking over....being in gear, it moved forward and pinned him to the back wall of his garage in such a position that he couldn't reach anything to stop the car....finally his son heard his cries for help and came to his rescue...SCARY stuff...He's since put a safety switch in...

Definatly safer with one , as a quick fix I put a switch on the floor under the clutch pedal , push the pedal down & it pushed the switch
