Carb Air Heater Disconnected - Any Issues?
« on: September 08, 2014 - 02:12:53 PM »
My car has the stock air cleaner without the carb air heater assembly. The opening on the base of the air cleaner is left open, will this cause any issues or is it ok to run as is?

I am experiencing some symptoms of a lean condition/vacuum leak that I can't pinpoint the issue, want to make sure this isn't aiding in the issue.

Was used to help bring the engine to op temp quicker, won't hurt to not have it.  :2cents:

 :iagree:

There is a vacuum canister on the snorkel.  When the engine is first started, a door in the snorkel opens up and pulls in warmer air from the heat stove around the DS exhaust manifold.  When the engine warms up, the vacuum signal to that canister is lost and the air door closes.  Then, you are pulling in engine compartment air.  Without the heat stove, it will take longer for the engine to warm up.  It isn't an issue once the engine is up to operating temp.

That could be the source of a vacuum leak though.  If you aren't using the heat stove, I'd remove the vacuum line at the carb and plug the nipple.

Thanks, when I read about how the snorkel works and the vacuum from the carb nipple I started to think about this as being a potential vacuum leak area. Thanks for the clarification, I will plug that nipple on the carb
