Lost Parts
« on: September 07, 2014 - 12:11:26 AM »
I know some of us have cut up cars in days gone by only to regret it now, but have any of you stashed away parts only to, ummm..."lose" them.

Back in the day I cut up a 70 Gran Coupe, it was a 318 car that needed some serious work.  Realistically it was a savable car.

Anyway, I pulled the 69 dated, X headed 340 out of the car, and pulled it apart to see if it was any good.   It sure looked ok at the time. I kept the 340 and X heads, and all the related items at my Dad's auto body shop for a number of years.  This would have been around 1997.

Last month I went to visit my dad and bring the engine block and all the related parts home.

My dad's response....um 340 engine....uh yeah I think that is over here.

I had seen it as recently as six months ago at his shop.  Now it has vanished.

All I have left is the stock pistons and rods, everything else seems to be gone.  Ii am guessing scrappers have scoffed it.

I am a little pissed. I was hoping to either rebuild the engine for my cuda, or sell it off to fund a few new tweaks to my cuda.  either way it is gone.

Anyone else have any similar stories.

Good buddy of mine with an absolutely beautiful A66 Challenger convertible 20 years ago built a hot 340 for his car so he could beat it a little & not worry about hurting his #s 340... Set the original 340 complete from carb to pan on a custom built roll cart in a shed in the back of his parents property.... A couple years ago he was wanting to bring the engine to his own property... He went looking & it was gone... Asked mom... Oh the gardeners hauled all the scrap away last week....  He contacted the gardener & found out which scrap yard, hit the yard but you know how this ends... :crying:
