Newer alternator
« on: September 16, 2014 - 08:08:12 PM »
I got a serpentine pulley kit that is supposed to use an alternator that came on 90's era magnum engines.  Is anyone familiar with them?  Are they 3-wire, similar to what came on my '71 Challenger, or a single wire hookup?  This is the one I am looking at, but I can tell from the pics what terminals it has on the back of it:

Not sure , I know a lot of Mopar products use the external reg so you do not have to swap the alt to fix the reg but I cannot say on that one

That will work. I have one on my 99 Durango and have a few from later 318 from junk yards. Uses 2 field wires so you keep your VR.

Not easily fitted to an early small block engine due to the thicker case and the charge lug sticking so far out the back. It hits the head unless you have the special brackets that you have.

The early ones had a dual pulley on the front that can be used on all of the later model Honda and Toyota ND (or Denso) brand alternators. With those don't need the VR anymore.

Awesome!  Thanks for the info guys.  I got the SD Concept bracket and serpentine pulley kit.  I rewired my car this winter and I forgot what size wire I used from the alt. to the battery.  I think the 90A unit should be enough juice, I hope I don't have to re-run that wire again.
