convertible challenger
« on: September 26, 2014 - 06:54:38 PM »
was looking at ebay and saw this convertible for sale    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Dodge-Challenger-2-DR-1971-dodge-challenger-convertible-/251655083586?forcerrptr=true&hash=item3a97cfd642&item=251655083586&pt=US_Cars_Trucks

so my question is what does it take to make a coupe sturdy enough to be a convertible since cutting the top off kills the rigidity if the body? is something like this considered a good driver level car or would it be too soft and flexible with frame stiffeners. if it is acceptable then what kind of value would it have? thanks in advance guys I am trying to learn about convertibles so I may one day have one for my very own :bananasmi

I wouldn't know the real value of this car, but to me it is worth nothing. Real verts have a lot of body flex, couldn't imagine how bad this hacked up thing would be! Save your $$ bro, and keep looking for a real one. They are out there, took me couple years to find a decent one in my price range. Good luck

I don`t believe he has had this car for that long and doesn`t know anything about the structural components of it.... That, and no underside pics would make me bid no more than parts value.  If the conversion hasn`t n been done right ,this truly is a death trap...  :2cents:

yeah thanks for the info guys I wasn't gonna touch this car I was just using it for an example. I really wondered about what it would take to make a coupe into a convertible since the factory made none and they were all created from coupes to my understanding by a 3rd company :22yikes:

If its done right it isn't an issue mine was converted. The frame connectors were custom built and it flexes less than any of the factory convertibles i've had.

Sunroofs were outsourced, certs were built in plant & theres allot of pieces that are completely different from a hardtop.... Structurally the biggest change is the reinforcing bars on the rockers & the boxing at the ends of the rockers tying the frame rails to the rockers....

These are inside the rocker on a vert...
