1970 426 HEMI shaker emblems...
« on: September 26, 2014 - 11:31:12 PM »
Hello everyone.  I need expert/personal knowledge about what the 1970 Challenger 426 HEMI shaker emblems looked like.  I bought  reproduction set that were supposed to be correct except for the numbers.  One is chrome and the other,  satin finished.  When I got them, though,  one side with the satin numbers had very thick number 4 tapering evenly to the letter "I".  The other was thick at the letter "I" but not as thick as the 4 on the other and tapers to the beginning of the 6 and then begins it get a little thicker toward the 4.  If I haven't confused you completely can you tell me which is correct for the 1970 Challenger shaker and why are they different.  If anyone has a 1970 matching pair I would like to talk to you.   They both have the correct numbers on the back which are one number different, stamped Lt and Rt and have the Pentastar logo.  Hope you can help.  Thanks

Thank you BIGSHCLUNK for your reply.  I like your color choice - hopefully I did the attachment thing correctly and you can see why.  I can't really tell from your picture.  Are your emblems thicker, front to back on one end and then get thinner toward the other end?  I can't believe there is no one on the board that has original emblems on their car from the 70's?

Chrome numbers and orange letters are repro.

OEM, the numbers are brushed and letters are more orangy-red.

Looked at my emblems today, got inspired and took a ride!  :burnout:   Anyway the numbers are a little thicker than the letters but its not on a slope going thick to thin.  :dunno:

I believe that the "call outs" on SHAKER bubbles are intended to be thicker on one end. My 440 six-pack emblems are made that way for my SHAKER hood and it took me a long time to find the correct ones. :burnout:

Thanks folks.  Like I said, I have the one that is fatter to thinner and the one that is fatter to thinner to fatter again.  I just wish I could find pics of the original 1970 on the car emblem so I can know which is correct.  Then I will have a billet place make me the opposite side in the opposite configuration.  Thanks again.

the one with the thicker 4 goes on the DVR side and the one with thick I goes on PASS side
its becuase of the curve in the front end of shaker bubble.

like this from he factory
its also why NOS ones run about $400 for a set.   :-)

flat RT hood use completely level emblems for both sides.

Also when you ordered them at the dealership they usually came in broken, I remember ordering 3 sets to get one good set. I have a pair but my camera's flash doesn't work so well. I can try an above, looking down shot if you need one.
