Man, that's a lot of money.

I think you can get a decent A518 (46RH) for that kind of coin.  Even with a JW Bell to fit a big block.

the problem with a 518 is the od sucks. it would take alot of money to get a built unit. then change your tranny crossmember because the od unit is to big to fit in the tunnel where the cross member is. i guess the gv unit will bolt right up and just a little massaging is needed and its good for 1200hp so should last forever behind my little 240hp 340. and in another 30yrs and the value of these cars goes up i can pull it off and sell it as an origional car.

Personally I like the 518 option better than the gear vendors, because for one the total cost of a 518 conversion would be less than the price of buying a gear vendor unit and still having a non rebuilt transmission (unless you have your existing transmission rebuilt at the same time, which adds more cost), 2nd if something goes wrong with the 518 compared to the gear vendor parts are a little easier to get since the 518 is a factory transmission compared to an aftermarket addition. You can get a 518 with a lockup converter which acts like another half gear to aid in fuel economy. Granted you do have to make a custom crossmember and slightly modify the transmission case's extra webbing to make it fit but that's it. The install is pretty easy and straight forward.

Check out this link they sell rebuilt 518's and they sell the parts to install one in your car. Do not listen to people that say you cannot use the stock slap stick linkage, because a member on here did it and I think the pictures and details are listed in the thread linked above.

I remember it well. But i think his biggest issue was the "split shifting" part (which is fun!!)
Not the actuall OD part.....  :dunno:

rebuilding a 727 is a really easy task although mine is in great shape. im looking at a unit that is good for alot more than 240hp so with proper maintenance it should last as long as i do. i dont have the tools to rebuild a 518 i hear the od unit needs a special tools to assymble.
im made this post to find the few with gearvendors and what they think of them

I have had my GV for about 6 years now.  Logged over 40K miles on it with no troubles or issues.  I consider it the best upgrade I ever did to the car.  I paid $2100 back then but prices have been rising each year.  I think the price is pretty much fixed no matter who you buy it from.  Try pricing one at  http://coperacingtrans.com/ I heard of a few guys buying from him.

You will need to buy special tools and have a shop press to rebuild the OD section on a 518, like you said. The gearvendor is a good unit.
70 Cuda, 7.0L Gen-III Hemi, Viper T56 w/9310 gearset, 3.91's, Megasquirt MS3x v3.57, Innovate wideband, Firm Feel upper arms, torsion bars, springs and strut rods, QA1 DA shocks. I did everything on this car except the fancy paint stuff and I drive it...and I can't seem to stop messing with it....

:wavingflag: How much horsepower can this thing handle? my engine will be around 575hp and was planning on 3.55 gears. I don't want to do a 518 upgrade because my 727 already has been built and it has a manual reverse valve body and I plan on using kilduff lightning rods for a shifter.  will this thimg hold up for highway use?
:wavingflag:  Quit being offended by everything, I am sure you are doing something that upsets me, but I am not complaining about you!!! It is a free county get over yourself!

GEAR VENDORS offers a 2 year unlimited horsepower warranty that is guaranteed even at the drag strip. Tough to beat!
You won't get that with any 5 speed. My painter put one in his brothers Fastback Barracuda and has one in his old Ram PU.
They love 'em.
The GV cost more than his truck is worth but it just keeps going.

Santa, if you were wondering...
