My AAR Body work gets started
« on: November 10, 2014 - 02:00:54 PM »
Ok guys & gals here we go,
I said the cosmetic stuff was going to be last and I finally convinced myself to take her off the road. :crying:
The hardest part of this is going to be not driving the car for a long while, since I am going to do as much of this myself as possible, and try and enjoy the journey.
So here is what I found when I ripped the interior out this weekend.
Plenty of rust in the floor pans, but not nearly as bad as the trunk was. I think I can save the floor pans in the front, although it looks bad there seems to be solid metal under the rust. The RR floor pan has one small pin hole through so I will probably replace both rears.
All the advice I hear is to save as much original metal as possible, but the rear pans are small enough where replacing the whole things seems to make sense. Firewall and rear extension looks good. Trunk shot (already planned on that). I will find out what I have in the lower qtrs and around the windows once I get to that part.
I will post more pictures as I progress
Opinions/Suggestions? :feedback:

Finesse asked the 'Cuda out to dinner once, but the 'Cuda stood it up to go drink beer under an overpass with her hot little sister. As far as this car is concerned, finesse can go stuff itself."

Opinions/Suggestions?

Strip the car down 100% and have it media blasted. That way you'll find ALL the rust :2cents:
I've taught you everything you know.....but I haven't taught you everything I know !

Alan,
I figured I would here from you, and I agree that that is the best way to proceed.
If I could afford it I would just send it to you, but then it would probably be to nice to drive! :money:
Being on a somewhat limited budget I will first have to figure out how to turn my garage into a blast booth.
I figure heavy plastic and lots of duct tape!
In the mean time I will continue on my path of no return, learning as I go. I already have found out a lot about the car that I didn't know and hope that the journey will be as rewarding as the result
