1" play in steering side to side

So, new tubular FF UCAs, stage 3 box and I agave about 1" play side to side before it connects? It feels like there is a gap between the steering column and the box. Any ideas?

I have the same problem with my Firm feel stage 3 box. Talked to Dick at firm feel and he will fix it but I'm to lazy to pull it out. You need to have a helper under the car to hold the pitman arm while someone moves the steering wheel to see if it moves with the wheel. You can grab the steering shaft before the coupling and move it to see if the input shaft moves. That should narrow it down.

I don't get it. The box stays in, but you adjust it with pitman arm?

Sorry  for the confusion. My reply was to help you find where the play is comming from. If you want to adjust the steering box I recommend you talk to the people you bought it from and they can talk you through it.

If you have the factory coupler there are 2 shoes that slide into the coupler , if they are turned 90* the shoes are loose in the coupler , the wheel will move a couple of inches before the coupler will move , make sure the shoes are in right .

just go under hood & rotate the steering shaft & see if it is loose in the coupler , if so with 2 people you can fix it easily by lifting the column rotating the shoes & sliding the column back into the coupler

I put them in wrong once. 
You could save yourself time and money if you checked yourself. If it's the problem it's an easy fix.

Are you talking about the steering column shaft and the steering box gear?

Line up the dot on the shaft next to the coupler and then once you install the coupler the roll pin secures the coupler to the steering box stud. It should be a tight fit once the roll pin goes in and there shouldn't be any slop once done.

It turns out it's the pitman shaft flex between the box and k frame. There is a stabilizer that will eliminate the flex between the two components. These guys at FF are great. They've gone out of there way to help me. I cannot say enough good things about how great they have been through this confusing process.
