Thoughts on Atlas 4-post lift
« on: August 12, 2014 - 05:50:54 PM »
I  bought this ......    http://www.gregsmithequipment.com/Atlas-Garage-Pro-8000-EXT  along with this so that I can jack up the car and remove tires.....   http://www.gregsmithequipment.com/Atlas-RJ-35-Sliding-Jack

I got a trailer and brought it home myself. After looking it over I decided that I needed someone else to assemble it due to its weight and lack of quality instructions. I called Greg Smith in Indy (150mi away)and asked about contractors. They gave me a number that ended up being 200mile away. That person told me to call Rotary Lifts who had an extensive list of contractors. Rotary then told me my local Parts Plus had contractors.  Two guys along with a forklift came out and had it all done in 3 1/2hrs. ($600 well spent). They then pointed out the differences between Rotary and Atlas. The main item was the posts were not made with as heavy of steel. I suspect that the standard Rotary is equal to the commercial Atlas. There's other things, but nothing major.   The lift is very easy to use and doesn't even know my Cuda is on it. The casters are very easy to use (don't use with car on) and one person can very easily move the lift from one place to the next. Only regret is not getting it sooner. The electric/hydraulic motor is not designed for lifting cars several times an hour.

Dave

Do you put the car up on jackstands when you need to do wheel work or brakes?

I would love a lift and have been eyeballing several but need a new house to pull it off.

little late to reply as i am just reading this thread.

My ceiling is 9'-9''  had to make a 6 ft x 6 ft recess in the ceiling for the roof to go up into the ceiling about 3 inches to get it to lock in the height i want. Had a 70 road runner on the bottom.

this one came with a sliding jack plate to lift the front or rear up.
