They will with a 1" spacer, and with a low profile tire so it is not too large in overall diameter.
I have 17" wheels with a 5 7/8" backspace with a 1" spacer. You want a backspace of about 4.5-5.0" on the front. Maybe a little over 5", but not much.

Thanks dodj, spacers are out for me, illegal down here, looks like I'm back to narrowing a diff housing and other wheels

An 18 x 9 rim will need a 0 offset for rear. the rim will be 10 inches in width at the bead and the mounting will be straight up at 5 inches from the inside to the mounting surface. I run 8's on the front and 9's in the rear with 255's and 285's. No rubbing at all.

Thanks BB, thats my thoughs as well, unfortunatley our wheel options down here are more suited to later model Jap drift type which has a large bs, limiting selctions etc.
I'll keep on it
