Could use some help with what wheels would have come on my vehicle
« on: November 14, 2014 - 04:09:33 PM »
I do not have the build sheet so wanted to ask you folks a general question about the  1970 Challenger RT/SE 440-6 pack cars, which wheels, tires and spare tire would have come with these vehicles? I would like to have factory correct OEM and/or NOS if possible, can I assume there will be date codes on the wheels as well?

thanks

Without a broadcast sheet there is now way of telling what type of wheels came on your car.
Standard Tire size would have been F70 X 14's with the optional E60 X 15's

Rims could have been plain steel with either full wheel covers or hub caps.  or 14" rallies or 14" Magnums, or 15" rallies
I've taught you everything you know.....but I haven't taught you everything I know !

There is a lot of good info available from Hamtramck-historical.

Here is the wheel page.

It looks like 14" wheels were standard on 383 Magnum and 440 engines.  15" was standard on the Hemi.  The Rallye wheel was the only 15" wheel available in 1970 according to the data book.  I know a 15" plain steel wheel was available in 71.  From what I can see, you have the option of any of the wheels or wheel covers listed.  I guess it just depends on what you like the best.

The space saver spare was standard on convertibles and a required option on 15" wheel cars.  It was an option for everything else.  If you had 14" wheels and a standard spare, it would have been a 14" plain steel wheel painted black.

I also believe the T/A is the only car that came with the dog dish caps AND trim rings.  Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

thanks for the info, I hate the fact that I do not have a build sheet, would have loved Ma Chrysler if they would have kept better records so a vehicle owner could look up their vehicles!
