Here is another  :2cents:... The SRT Hellcat is on the road for $60K.  The cuda's of yester-year can't hold a candle to these. I think people with cars over $50K are going to be in bad spots trying to resell for a while.

There are clearly two separate camps here: Guys that like and respect the originals but don't have the time/skills/cash to commit so they go buy a 2015, and there there guys like us.  I don't think the 2015 Hellcat, Challenger, or Charger hurts our resells at all because the guys buying those cars would not buy an original in the first place.

Yeah, I see it as apples and oranges myself. I love the new and the old and I recognize the new stuff out today is superior in every single way. I drive a newer car as my daily driver for that reason. The old cars I love though have style that cannot be duplicated.

When I drive my older cars around, I can't go five minutes without a wave, a nod, a thumbs up, etc. You won't see that with new cars when they crank them out by the millions and anyone with credit can go get a newer better one by signing an agreement. I'd still like a new Challenger someday but I don't expect anyone to ooh and ahh over it when I take it out.

I do believe prices of classic cars will go back up at some point, probably as home values nationwide start reaching new highs many years from now. Just an opinion.

I have been watching eBay auctions on old classics of all varieties, including the 71 Cudas that sparked this discussion and very few cars are actually hitting their reserve marks and changing hands. What I am seeing is that sellers generally are not willing to sell their cars at lower prices and buyers are generally unwilling to come up on what they are willing to pay. This means very few cars are actually selling. Very, very few compared to a few years back.

Someone in here mentioned that the cars are only worth what someone is willing to pay. I responded with my opinion that there was another side of that coin where the car is only worth what the owner is willing to sell it at. Since this discussion began, no 71 barracudas or Cudas have sold on eBay that I have seen. There are limited numbers of numbers matching 71 Cudas out there so it seems those that have them control the values until a new source of them becomes available. Old Mustang notch backs by the way are selling for pennies but that makes sense since they made two million in the first few years alone. There will always be enough motivated Mustang sellers to keep supply high and price low.

I will own a 71 Cuda someday and I am willing to pay the kind of money most people spend on a new car because it is worth it to me. Since these cars are not selling, it might seem they are worth a lot to the people who currently own them as well.

Ok the Hellcat is in short supply right now but eventually supply will catch up with demand. Once that happens the value of a Hellcat will act similar to any other new car, it will depreciate. In some cases this can be as much as 20 percent or more as soon as it leaves the lot. On a $60,000 car, that most people will finance, it can get you upside down pretty quick.
I do not know many people that can walk away from $10,000 to $15,000 and feel good. The Depreciation on the Hellcat  will continue at 15 to 30 percent of residual value each year for several years. Thus rate will also be impacted the more or less that you drive it.
A as anyone asked about the insurance rates for a 700 plus horsepower car? I doubt it will be as cheap as insuring a 71 Cuda.
I have done the old muscle car sale to buy the latest and greatest new performance car and looking back it was a big mistake.

Nice looking car you have there Alan. In the picture it appears the mirror is a 1970 short base. I am working on a 71 gran coupe that was built about a month before this one and it obviously has a few 70 parts on it as well. The trunk pan is a 70 version, along with the doors and the mirrors are the short base as well. Rear tail panel did not get the GC crest either. Other items are 70's that they used on the early 71's. If possible, could you share the 2nd and third # of the vin. I am curious to see how many they made in the month. Mine is 1007xx. Think the spd is 803, but would have to check for sure. If by chance the car is sporting any other 70 only parts, please share if you have the time. thanks

Hagerty has it valued at $127,000 for a #1 car, and $84,100 for a #2.  Is this a #1 perfect condition car?

Are you guys taking into account it's a purple/white car with a factory shaker hood and rubber bumper ? Because I'll buy every one you have at $84K...

Here's a couple of others listed on the same web site:

When there are several comparable V code cars available, it's nice to have the cheapest one available. If this car doesn't sell before Christmas...I'll be very surprized. :2cents: 99% sure it will go over seas.

Just to be clear: I DO NOT OWN THIS CAR...I'm only helping the current owner sell it and I'll be storing it for him until it does.

Hello everyone,
I'm the owner of the Cuda that was on the WMCW.
Obviously they pissed me off and was the last time I watched it. That same episode they were way the hell off on the T- Bird that auctioned off.
I gave them a very detailed decription.  They either didn't read it or don't know too much.
This car is a true white billboard car.  I hear its rather rare with B5, black interior. 4sp. Unfortunately it's not the original motor.
This has been annually "restored". The bottom was taken to raw shiny metal. The base coat clear coat lays nicely. And easy to wax.:)
From every headlight adjuster to every brake spring is new. Paint, interior and Bright work is near perfect.
Anyway, I do have it for sale. If $35k is all I can get. It will make an awesome coffin! ' cause it does not suck owning it.
I'll keep you posted on my progress.
