If you want  it somewhat stock I would use the  voodoo cam 302 or 303.I would get a pair of 440 source heads paint them orange.I would replace the stock 440-6 rods. Those things are boat anchors.KB pistons.Electronic ignition, and maybe roller rockers.
Very close to what I'm doing with the Roadrunner.  Want to keep it stock or period correct looking so no modern unpainted heads for me.  Already have the Stealths, will be running headers, aluminum intake, etc.  just like I did in the 70's but will be keeping all the original manifolds, heads, carb and the rest in boxes should I or someone after me want to put it all back on. No harm, no foul, best of all options to me.  :2cents:

another thought came to me that I am sure should be addressed. How much extra HP can the 727 auto tranny take before it begins to break down? This tranny is already supposed to be "heavy duty" but what will happen when the HP is increased. What is the limit? Remember, I want to keep this vehicle as original as possible but am considering tweaking engine HP, would I also need to tweak the tranny internally? I am sure the engine shop will give their opinion/options, etc. but it doesn't hurt to get as many opinions/suggestions as possible. Cast a wide net as they say.

There are $2500 dollar trannys that can handle 600hp+ but I believe the stock trannys are good till about 450-500??

I would go higher than that , specially built ones will handle 1000 hp or better , stock ones with good parts should take 800 hp
