on a 8 3/4 rear that is a posi, what would be wrong when you turn the tire one way, and then there is a heasitation on the other side, then wants to turn the opposite,  something slipping broke??????  THANKS

it probablyt has the cone style sure grip & the cone is bottomed out in the case & will not grab anymore , the end of the cone can be machined off to get a bit more life ou tof it otherwise it is basically junk

WOW - so you can't "bring it to life" with any replacement internals huh?

no , the inside of the case wears as well , so they are done , the older clutch style sure grips is completely rebuildable though
