Here is my junkyard jewel. That poor slant six van is feeling a little used right about now.

Thanks for the heads up on using the newer OD's. I got a line on a small block bellhousing and flywheel too.

if the small block bel is not an over drive you will need to cut the front brg retainer down to 4.80 "
I hope you enjoy the 4 gear , , I have only had 1 customer not like it

Yeah, I forgot to mention that the bellhousing is on a small block overdrive truck. Somebody beat me to the tranny but left the bellhousing, clutch cover, fork, and flywheel.

I am really thinking about doing the swap to a OD 833.  In a previous thread I recall reading that the 833 that came in truck's/van's from 1976 thru 1990 will work in an E body.  Are there any particular differences in the trans from that 14 year span?  Are there any numbers on the case to pay attention to?

All you need to find is a 833 OD out of the truck or van. They will have the long tailshaft and two shifter mounts. The rear mount is used for the E body. In my picture the correct mount is where I taped up the rear seal.

The tailshaft on the 833 OD in the F bodies is too short and only has one shifter mount. They work in the A bodies though.

Cool!  Thanks for the info.  What do you have to do to move the shifter?  It looks like it will move back like 15".  Will you need different rods or something to compensate?  Or is there something that I am not seeing?  A before/after comparison would be great!

You doi need a set of the E body shfitrods to work , also the shifter mount is unique for the E body but Passion has them available either used or in billet which is Much stronger , basically any truck tranny works , there are some differences over the years , the early trannys had cast I ron cases , later all used alum , but the extemsion housing is always iron that I have seen , the shifter mounts need to be drilled & tapped on most extention housings btu some early ones were tapped , later models used a a weaker syncro with less splines although I have never seen one fail beacuase of this
