Show us your electric fuel pump switch locations!
« on: March 02, 2015 - 06:56:10 PM »

I have a green lit switch for my Mallory fuel pump and I am now wondering where is a good place to mount it yet not drill a hole in the dash.

I want to keep it clean and nice and I was thinking of mounting it low like the lower part of the dash just above the console.

Thoughts, ideas, pics?

My pic will be uploaded when the admins clear the upload folder. :P

I mounted mine under the heater controls to the right of the e-brake lever.  It was hidden for the most part yet easy to access when starting the car.

I had a switch drilled into the windshield washer foot pump mount for awhile. It was well hidden and relatively easy to flip if I wanted to.

Here is my idea, which I believe jives with what one of you said.

Does your car have a MAP light?  If so, do you think you'll ever use it?  I'd hook the pump up to the map light switch.  If you don't have the map light, I would try to find a map light bezel and install the switch in the same location.  There should already be a hole in the dash for it.  That would be my first choice.

It looks like you might already have your gauge pod mounted where the map light switch was originally mounted though.  Is this electric pump going to run all the time or just used to prime the engine after the car sits?  Post a picture of your switch.  Since you have a custom interior, I think a switch might look good on the console...directly in front of the shifter.  You'd only have to drill a hole into the top plate.  Obviously, it depends on what the switch looks like.

Why not just eliminate the switch, wire the relay to trigger directly from the ignition switch.

So it's harder to steal your vehicle?   :dunno:

I have done that on another car and like the fact that I can turn on and off the pump when I want.

For example, if you want more juice to start the car. Turn off the pump after you have enough in the floats and then once started - turn it back on.

Just gives you more options - that's all.

Yes, and there are times when you will be working on your car and require the ignition switch to be on but do not want to run the pump.

So it sounds like this pump will be running all the time?  I'm thinking of adding a pump just to prime the carb after the car sits.  Today's gas evaporates out of the carbs pretty fast.

If this pump is used in place of the mechanical pump, it will need to run when starting and running the motor.

You can't actually see the switch, but it is mounted in the shifter console, just to the left of the shift lever. It is the front switch out of 4 flip switches mounted there.

1) - Fuel Pump

2) - Water pump

3) - Left cooling fan

4) - Right cooling fan
