Yes, Petty (TB3) blue is a fairly rare color for any year.

Does the world need another purple 73 Challenger? Back in my home town, in the 90's there were no less than 7 of them and, of course, none were original.
My name is Steve and I'm addicted to Challengers...

 Hi! I bought a 1972 Superblue Challenger by ordering it from the factory in early '72. The color code was TB3 and it was called 'Superblue', or in Plymouth 'Basin Street Blue'. I drove that car around for 33 years before I sold it for restoration to a man in Tampa who bought it on Ebay for $5,125.00. In all my time driving it, I only saw two other cars the same color, and one car was the first car that I ordered and rejected because it was missing too many irreplacable options. I've been looking for that color in the new Challengers and it's not offered. More the pity...

Hi Lords1!  Welcome!

Would you have any old pics of your car?  Your car reminded me of my car in that the original owner had it for 30+ years as well.

Not from the factory, but Richard Petty has his line of Petty built cars but cost $$$.

1972 Dodge Challenger Rallye 340, AT, Code TB3=Super Blue, SBD=8/17/1971.  Yes, a Rallye without the fender louvers from the factory because of the body side molding option.

Phil in New England-Massachusetts  Always thank God for what you have!

and people laughed at me when i painted my '74 Petty Blue. i've herd others call it  Corporate Blue.

my '74 was originally beige. didn't find that out till we started digging into the car, no fender tag or build sheet.
but i went with the blue anyway. i agree with Super Blue 72, the black does break up the blue. for me,
all that blue is just too much. i like it with the black vinyl top, black tail light panel, i have a black T/A hood
for mine. wanna do the stripe and wing too, but no T/A in the stripe or no 340 decal on the fender. i've
seen a few cars done this way and that's what i based my scheme from. here's some pics of challengers
that i've seen over the years like how i'm doing mine. oh, and all chrome too. keeping all the bright moldings
helps the color pop.

this first one is what inspired my decision for the petty blue. i hope you go with the B3.  :2thumbs:

No. Paint names didn't change by model. Corporate Blue was a different color. You can find the corporate colors listed on color chip charts and see that the paint codes are different.
