noise filter question
« on: January 26, 2015 - 05:55:56 PM »
Under the dash and on the firewall of my 74 is a silver box about 2" square that says Archer heavy duty noise filter. Was it original to the car? A PO put in a Clarion system and I am removing it and putting in a original reprodution AM/FM radio from Antique Automobile Radio. Do I need the filter?
In search of the eternal buzz!

Murray, I think they were for radio noise suppression due to the ignition. If you're running carbon core plug wires it shouldn't be a problem normally. Wire core wires are another story. I'd unplug it and put in your radio; if there's ignition noise, try plugging it back in and see if it helps.
