Anyone Added Resonators to TTI Ebody Tailpipes
« on: January 04, 2015 - 10:30:21 AM »
 1970 Challenger:
I will be receiving my TTi 2.5" X-pipe system this coming week and I will be using the Hooker Max Flow mufflers under the seats. Due to what I have read, the WOT on the Max Flows will be very loud (apx 120db) and I will be adding resonators beside the tank. TTi does not offer resonators as an option and they have a large mounting tab in the location of where a resonator can be mounted. I have seen enough pictures no know how I need to modify the tail pipes and I already have brackets made to replace the existing tail pipe brackets. I am just curious if anyone else has already modified their tail pipes and if so, do you have any pictures.

I found this picture on the internet of the TTi Cuda mounting bracket (similar to Challenger) that is in the way of a resonator.

 Thanks

I am looking to do a similar modification with 3 " pipes. My thoughts were to do a race muffler like the Dynomax race bullet but the DB reduction is not what I would like. There is only a small distance you can stick one in (like 12 " or so) . Another option is to try to find a quieter muffler

I am planning on mounting the tail pipes per TTi instructions. Then cut off the existing mounting tab and adding my own bracket from the stock bracket straight down to the tail pipe. This should give me 12-16" of useable straight section. Once I know for sure, Eric at Classic Chambered Exhaust will make me what ever length resonator that will fit into the area out of a 3.5" body diameter. He can build you whatever you need too.
I have emailed Eric a couple of times about this resonator. He said that his can knock off some of the WOT decibals while retaining the sound and the straight through design that I am looking to build.

I added MFN 6x6" race mufflers either side on my system, I love them, absolutely no drone. See link

 Crash,
I like the 6x6's. How did you mount the tail pipes? Did you use the TTi brackets? What exhaust size are you running?

 Thanks for the reply

The exhaust system is a 2 1/2" MagnaFlow X system so I used the MF brackets that bolt onto the body under the rear seat per std MF systems, from there I had some masaging of the tail pipe to do in order to set the 6x6's up high enough in order to basically set the tips correct in the rear valance, I used the factory brackets that attach to the chassis rails, then simply purchased two 2 1/2" pipe clamps, drilled two holes through the factory bracket and bolted the pipe clamp to it so as I could adjust the tip centering in the valance. I will see if I can find some more pics

here is a picture of the factory rear left hand hanger, after the muffler and before the tip, the bracket bolts to the muffler, the clamp holds the tip on, what I did is basically rotated the clamp 180 deg and it bolts to the factory bracket that hangs in the rubber bush on the factory chassis mount

I received my Challenger TTi 2.5" x-pipe and tail pipes and installed the Hooker Max Flow mufflers. Due to the results on the web about the WOT decibal range (120+) of these mufflers, I wanted to mount resonators to the TTi tail pipes to help with the noise and the possibility of any drone.

I have attached a link to the thread that I posted on Moparts (go to page 2 at the bottom. Jan 28 date) that shows the details, but Classic Chambered Exhaust made me a pair of resonators that allowed for a shorter resonator/exhaust tip assembly and this bolted right in using an "off-the-shelf" resonator and basic tools.

Good Read , but I wonder if they really lower the DB level. Anything to control the drone is a plus..

Controlling the drone is my first thought.  I know that he adds sound absorption material to his resonators. The WOT sound level might dbe fine since I added the x-pipe and resonators to the Max Flow mufflers. I can't wait for Spring to find out!

 EDIT:
I just got in from starting it up for the first time to check for leaks. The sound at high idle and idle is DEEP and not loud. So far the volume sounds nice!

Those MF 6"x6" race mufflers are so short that I actually dont know how much they dropped the db, I can confirm there is ZERO drone which is awsome, around town it still barks when your on the gas, that said, I'm lead to believe that the 6x6's could drop the db's by around 4-6db :dunno: if the Cuda tips didnt bend i sould slip a piece of pipe through the 6x6 to see if it changed the note some, but again, they are only 6" long so Im thinking it would be minimal, I'm very happy with the outcome.

They are only 6" in length but they are 6" in diameter.!
I would have gone larger than 4" in diameter if they were available. The no-drone is well worth the effort of adding the resonators!
