Bumper Paint/Chrome
« on: February 13, 2015 - 02:33:55 PM »
Cleaned up the bumpers and they turned out pretty good.  I have a couple chipped areas I would like to just cover with a quality chrome paint.  I tried the shiniest spray of Rustoleum I could find at hardware store.  Brushed it on but it looks grey.  Not the best look.

Has anyone used a better option to just touch up chrome?

Thanks.

There is no chrome paint that really looks like chrome.  How did you clean the bumper?  If you didn't already know, 0000 steel wool does a great job at cleaning chrome and doesn't scratch the surface.  Maybe try some on the bad areas and see if it helps.  If you have spots where the chrome has actually chipped off the surface of the bumper, I don't think you are going to be able to hide it.  Maybe you could find a nicer used bumper?

My powder coater told me there is a ceramic coating thats used on headers, that once applied it can be polished and comes out like chrome. Might be a less expensive alternative to plating. I'm having some test pieces done to see how it looks.
