Clutch adjuster alignment
« on: February 23, 2015 - 10:07:43 PM »
Trying to wrap up all the unfinished business to get my engine fired. This past Sunday afternoon I spent connecting the clutch linkage. Push rid between the pedal and z bar went in okay. However, the angle of the clutch adjuster rod to the fork doesn't look right.

Trying to get all the pieces together, there was absolutely no way to get the  rod into the fork with the adjuster grommet in place. The angle was just to severe to get it to seat. So I pull the grommet and can finally get it to seat. I turn down the adjusting nut against the washer, but the angle of this thing does not look right. I double checked the adjustor rod against the manual and Brewers website and according to the documents and pictures, it is the correct one, but that  angle.... On top of that, the rod is too long and is hitting the header tube, so I am not getting full pedal travel.

What do the 4 speed guys here think and what would you suggest? Obviously need to cut it down some, but the angle has me scratching my head without some funky bends in the rod.

You are missing pieces.  Also. did you set the locking clip on the pivot ball and bushhings so the equalizer dosent slide ?

The piece in the link from Topcat looks like the solution. Boy are they proud of those. Might have to make my own at that price.

Al, bigblue, which parts am I missing? According to that diagram, I have all the parts except the release fork bushing, which I removed to get the rod into place and I still have it if I need to get it back in there. Perhaps if I had a swivel instead of a washer and bushing, but that would be the only difference I can see.

The locking clip is in place on the pivot ball as well.

to me it looks like the wrong fork , yours seems to be too long , the steel pivot ball is all I ever use instead of the rubber grommet , trucks all used them so you can search the local wreckers for them , I have probably 10 spares & would send you one but my parts are all 6000 miles from where I am unfortunatly

Thanks for the tip on truck pivots. I'll try to get a look under some this weekend.

I better take the ruler to the fork to verify its actual length as it has had interference issues since I started this conversion. I had to weld a bead around the header ports and angle grind them to create enough offset to get it to clear the tubes, so you might be right about it being too long. I do have a spare fork that has been modified to be longer. Maybe I'll cut it down to be shorter instead.

Checked the fork length tonight...it comes in at 11.25. According to Brewers, I should have one 10.875, I'm .375 too long.  Looks like that is the core of the problem all the way around. Guess I'm making mods to my spare this weekend.

Yeah I was going to say what Neil already said as it looks too long.

Mine went together quite easily.
