71 Cuda value Back on track....

That is actually a BH27N1 car.  Rare, but not even a real 'Cuda bringing six figures!  Dang, maybe I shouldn't have sold my REAL 'Cuda 'vert.

The red vert says "recreation". To me that means clone or tribute, or at least not a numbers matching car. If thats the case then that sold for a LOT more than I would have ever guessed. 
My guess for a #2 71 vert 440 clone is about $50-$60k. Maybe show #1 quality a little more, but not 3 times that. What am I missing?
The green vert looks "real" and sold well too IMO.
Makes me wish I bought that black 71 vert hemi clone project I was looking at back in 2009. Guy wanted only a little more than what I paid for my car...had all the parts to finish, and the paint was done, but I just didnt want to pull that trigger for a car mostly still in boxes.

The Red one is cloned from a 1970.

Again, the green one isn't even a real 'Cuda.

Big dollars are back in musclecars I think.  Even clones as the real ones are getting even more $$$.

That beautiful B5 '70 Cuda sold for almost $380,000 even though it has a column shifter.  It did have only 30k miles on it so I guess that shot the price up.

I was at the Barrett Jackson this year and saw that red cuda.  Have pics in my phone.  It was nice, but not $181K nice, that's for sure.  And a yucky luggage rack to boot...

 As the owner of a 70 440/6 V code cuda completely done from ground up (Chryco Psycho knows the car intimately as he did the restoration) I just had to add my 2 cents. Yes I probably have over 100k invested in it but I don't really care. I continually get low ball offers but my position is where would I ever get another one, so why bother selling? It is a show car but I never take it anywhere because most people don't know what they are looking at anyways. For me its a blast to drive as its a 4 speed and the date correct 440 looks stock but has a been tweaked to 528 (actually scares me quite a bit then you put your foot in it, not sure of exact HP but its up there). I have had the new challengers etc but you cannot top the fun of a big block/4speed dialed up a bit. Value could be anywhere from 50-150k but I doubt I will ever be tempted to sell it when I compare it to my other (and past) cars. I think other owners are thinking the same, you can speculate price is up, down or in between but I see very few nice ones come up for sale anywhere. I hit all the auctions in AZ and have yet to see much comparable ( the Barret Jackson convertible is nice but would not want the automatic). Next generation may not be interested in 70's muscle but again who cares? It has a totally different feel from the new muscle cars and I just love driving it, if need be they can bury me in it so market value does not much concern me.

I am in no means an expert but I have been at this for over 35 years. When I was a kid these cars were everywhere and reasonably cheap. It was nothing to buy a running, driving car for a couple hundred bucks. Beat on it for awhile and turn it over to buy the next one. My first 71 Cuda cost a whopping $200 !!! The most recent was a steal considering the condition of the car and the current market I see for 71 Cuda's. Did I buy it because it's worth more than I paid for it??? No, I bought it to enjoy. Face it saving money in the bank is a lost cause. The value of the dollar is dropping faster than interest rates can keep up with. They don't make 71 Cuda's anymore and there's a very limited amount of them left. If the Cuda is ever for sale I am sure I can make a few dollars on it or my wife can use it to settle my estate!!!

I agree with you that you will never get back out of it that you put into it if you sell it. I also agree that where would you find another one you could afford. I am still very much into body work on my current one and guys that see it constantly ask me what it will be worth when I am finished? I tell them nothing if you have to ask its value. It is worth whatever someone will pay for it and it is not for sale. I also enjoy the sounds, smells and noise it makes compared to the new ones. It just makes you think about driving it while you are driving it. I love the new Challengers but I would not give up my old one.

A new Challenger will do nothing but depreciate for many years. High production  numbers will ensure it is not going to be collectable unless you put it away in a climate controlled bubble and even that will not stop it from depreciating.
If you need a newer one for a driver buy a 4-5 year old one with as low miles as possible.
With the money you save go out and but the best 71 Cuda you can afford.

Some may think there cars are worth a certain amount but it takes two to make a deal. Price elasticity can be a b*&ch sometimes.

So true.
We can try to get out what we think its worth, but you might take years doing it. At least these classics tend to go up in value, and not down, and yes.... they definitely drive NOTHING like the new muscle.
The other night I watched Richard rawlings on gas monkey thrashing the $42k 71 chally he bought at auction, and while driving it he mentioned how big the car was. All I know is....its a much smaller car than a new Chally.
