Front end vibration
« on: March 27, 2015 - 11:19:54 PM »
I recently purchased a restored 1970 challenger RT. All bushings in the front end look new and connected and tight. I made a mistake of taking it to Goodyear for a front end allighnment and came back to  the worse allighment I had ever seen. The front tires were at least 3 inches pointing inward pigeon  toed and the tops of the tires were visually off too. I made them put it back on the machine so I felt at least safe just to get it home which was 5 to 6 miles away with tires chirping around corners. I Made a couple of phone calls to find someone that could still do the old school allighnment and found a guy that had been doing it 30 years. Picked up the car and it now drives very straight but on the way home I now have a pretty good vibration that developed in the left front end around 25 to 45 mph. Any feedback on what it might be ?

The big problem is the specs are designed for old bias ply tires so the front end needs to be set up far differently from the factory spec , you want to max the caster . 1/2* of camber in at the top  & approx 1/16" of toe in to steer properly .
if there was no vibration before it sound to me like the alignment is still off , or you could have bad tires , if you have BFGarbage they are notorious for not being round .

Thanks so much, the tires are new.... well were new until I had to drive home about 6-7 miles just to get the car away from Goodyear. Im just wondering if that few miles ruined the front tire.

Have the front wheels rebalanced and look for any strange tire wear. If those few miles did wear the tread down creating a vibration, put them on the rear. One good burnout may correct it.   Also, check that the wheel bearings are adjusted properly.
