A/C Controls - custom
« on: October 16, 2014 - 02:28:45 AM »
Hi,

My '73 Cuda came original with Airconditioning, and its still blowing cold air so there is no reason to change to any aftermarket A/C, but I want to change the old A/C controls to something new, I spoke to a couple about it but never seemed to get an answer for it..

Bear in my the dash is custom made and will have a RacePak dash, therefore im looking for a modern looking A/C control to work with the OEM A/C.

Any ideas?

Vintage A/C is offering electronically controlled a/c for cars - even with factory a/c. Their controls are now backlit. No cables, so you can put the controller where ever you want. Being al electric, I'd imagine you could design your
own face plate and adapt their stuff pretty easily? I haven't looked at their website in awhile. Maybe they would even work with you? A few years ago I asked about a "67 B Body, and they told me to contact them, that they would work with me.
Maybe they can help you out. Don't know how you can "change" from a cable operated system to something different, unless you have a control panel in mind from a cable operated system, and get custom cables made, though.

It seems to be one or the other - cable or electronic. I could be vey wrong, though. Maybe they offer servos that mount to your cable driven box?

I've worked on two so far... They fall apart, the knob falls off with the sliding control attached... need to replace the whole thing.... Pile of crap... :2cents:
It amazes me how so many run out & buy every new component for their old car without seeing if there are problems...

I have the entire A/C setup from Bouchillon and when I was ordering it I said I wanted to buy the new switches figuring it would be easier and he recommended against it.  Said they aren't worth it and to stick with the old ones using the cables.  In the long run it will be way more reliable.  So that's what I did.  I haven't put it in yet but someday.
