How are converter weights attached

Team, I have to trim/thin my converter weights, how are the attached to a factory converter please, if I shorten both ends with a dremmel cuttoff wheel will the remainder fall off or if I grind it thinner will it fall off???

I cut this 1 off, should be able to cut the weld.

Thanks Katfish, my converter is an earlier 360 unit with the two weights either side of the drain plug, no visible sign of weld

They are induction or resistance welded on which means the 2 dimples on the weight in the picture are the attachment points to the converter.  By induction welding it doesn't ad weight to throw off the balance and its faster with out the heat distortion of a conventional weld

Be careful! You're only about .030-.040" away from buying a new converter. Remember that the welding will make the weight and converter housing one piece. Slow and easy and careful is the game.

thanks guys, so, if they are effectively more or less spot welded onto the converter, I should be able to thin them out and or trim the ends a little without problem ?

should be fine
