I had a similar issue. A mail lady wouldn't deliver mail because of tree limbs hanging down to low. She drove as close as she could and on a couple occasions dumped my mail all over the ground next to the mail box. This was a college town at a place I rented, I wasn't even responsible for lawn care.

I was furious, I say let that lazy ass hit the damn poles, your pictures is clear she has no reason to tear up your yard

You are lucky that is your issue. My mail carrier doesn't close my post box. It's not difficult.
After one winter - when the snow melted, I found al kinds of letters wet, mushy, and scattered around my yard.
Yes, I went in and complaingned. Did it do any good? LOL! ROFLMAO! no.
I work for a RR. I am gone 2 days at a time. When I get home, I expect my mail to be there.
It is, just not always in my box if the wind blows. I live in a small town of 3500. You would think that they could get their collective "stuff" together.
May have to complain again soon.

No more problems (so far) since I put in the steel pole.

In your case maybe a spring to close the box would do the trick.  :dunno:

So we get to talk about POS mail carriers.... :roflsmiley: :roflsmiley:  Two stories...

Current mail carrier at my shop complex....
One of my neighbors has a business selling product on Ebay & typically sends out packages daily both UPS & USPS... UPS picks up, USPS normally he has to drop off at the post office....  But on those days when USPS delivers a package we sometimes get a relief driver who will take the packages.. However the driver assigned to the route flat refuses, it's his job but you can be standing there with packages in hand & he'll drive off.... Call the post office & get "Well he's retiring in 18 months & we can't force him to do anything he doesn't want to do".... Really? How about letting him know by not doing his job he could lose his job & his Golden Parachute...  Oh, the Union makes it hard to fire someone.. Well maybe you need to go through the steps to get the attention of other employees.........

Story two
Twenty plus years ago I had a rather large German Shepard... He had access to the house & the back yard, never the front porch where my mail box was located.... Mail had been delivered to my mail box for years but suddenly it stopped... After a week I stooped by the post office to see whats up... Twenty minutes later I'm informed I have a vicious dog & the new carrier refuses to deliver to my porch.... I either have to move my box out to the street or get a PO box.... Now this vicious dog has never bitten or attacked anyone.. I tried arguing my point but got nowhere.. My old carrier loved my dog, loved dogs in general.. Carried treats in his mail bag... New carrier scared of dogs & you know all German Shepard's are vicious... Anyway at some point the post office manager stepped in & part of his argument was "Are you aware 2 postal carriers were killed by vicious dogs last year?.......  To which I immediately responded "Are you aware 14 postal workers were killed last year by other postal workers?"    Needless to say I had to move my mail box....
