Black Gator Grain Vinyl Top
« on: May 19, 2015 - 02:20:08 AM »
Hi everybody,

I am restoring a ´70 Challlenger. The car came with a V1G Vinyl Top "Black Gator Grain".
I would like to restore as close to original as possible.
Legendary is offering a reproduction of the vinyl top but it looks kind of brownish.
Is that the original colour for V1G?
Was black gator looking like some muddy brown or was it dark black when it was delivered
in 1970? Is the reproduction colour correct?
I did not find any contemporary and informative pictures in the internet.
Who can help?

Thanks in advance !!!

Hello Joe,

The Legendary vinyl is spot on to original. The roof vinyl starts off black and then the brown is added afterwards with the embossing to get the gator pattern, as time goes on and your top fads, it will eventually get darker and darker as to be Black. Good luck and i would love to see your fender tag to see what other options and colour combination your car came factory if at all please. :picture:

Thanks,
Kenny. :2thumbs:
