Had to change out one of the axle bearings today, pressed the old bearing off and look what I found, some crapbag has butchered the removal of a previous bearing. right now im running a stock 340 so it will do for now as I dont drive it hard, when the 408 goes in I will most definetly upgrade. why do people have to stuff things up,

Pretty common...people use torches to cut off the old retainer...seen it before

If only people knew the correct procedure for using a torch.
I learned the spit test for bearings when I worked heavy equip. Works like a charm, bearing off, bearing on, no damage.

I just use a bearing press to take them off, easy as, no risk of nicking the shaft,,,, I split the collar though
