How can you tell without tearing everything apart what you have ? Does the HP exhaust sound have a little more loping sound to it at idle ?

Cam was a bit mpore aggressive , hard to tell by sound , better compression & HP manifolds , probably have to measure the cam with a dial guage on the valve

Looks like engine code 'N' for 383 HP and code 'U' for 440 HP

The block would be stamped HP behind the alternator

I have the HP exhaust manifolds, but they could be put on any 383 which is why I asked.

Look for red valve springs with dampers... Green valve springs on non HP engines...
