73 Barracuda Transformation
« on: November 15, 2014 - 11:58:07 PM »
Starting a new project just picked up this 73 Barracuda 318 3-speed car.  No engine or trans so it gives me many options!  My safest option is to rebuild a 383 and get an A833.  However a new 392 Hemi is intriguing as well.  Not much will happen with the car until spring as I have put it in storage until then.  Will just be collecting parts until that time.  Here are the pics!

Yup.  Plan is to strip it down and soda blast everything to see where we are at.  Looks like it will be the two rear quarters, trunk floor and one floor patch.  everything else looks fairly solid.

Looks like it was a blue/blue car.  Are you keeping the original color scheme?

Those door panels are beat!

I have to ask, what's the fender tag readout?

Sounds great, send some pics after you get it blasted - I did it to mine and was very glad I did, saw all the issues and was a clean surface to work from.  I'm doing a 73 right now too, the thread is in the restoration forum area, search project sassy.

Cheers

The fender tag is as follows:
BH23:
Plymouth Barracuda
High
2 Door Hardtop

G3B: 318 150HP(net) or 170HP(net) 1-2BBL 8 CYL
1973
Dodge Main, Hamtramck, MI, USA

100165:   Sequence number

E44:    318 cid 2 barrel V8 230hp
D13:    3 Speed Manual Transmission-Floor Shift
TB3:    Blue Streak Exterior Color
A6B5:    Trim - Basic, Vinyl Bucket Seats, Blue
000:    Full Door Panels
804:    Build Date: August 04
143273:   Order number

TB3:    Blue Streak Top Color
U:    USA Specifications
B43: Manual Brakes
C56:    Bucket Seats
M21:    Roof drip rail moldings
R11:    Radio Solid State AM (2 Watts)

V5X:    Body Side Stripes, Black
EN2:    End of Sales Codes

I have been following project sassy and I think it looks great!  I have been thinking about a couple different colors.  Go Mango from a Ram Daytona, orange or red with black interior.

Very cool. No black stripes through. V5X is black body side moldings :2cents:

Don't think the figures exist, but you could guesstimate it's one of 400 or so with the 3 spd :dunno:

Alan
my 74 Challenger came with the 318/3spd stick. Is it that low a production also?
Sorry for the thread jack but I had to ask.

Removing the warning labels one at a time.

Cool to find out such a low number. Good thing I kept Trans and floor shifter all these years.
wonder if there is a bonus to having such a low number for an option no one wants...lol

Now back to the regularly scheduled thread.
Removing the warning labels one at a time.

Right now it is just sitting.  Hopefully can tear into it this fall and send it to bodywork and paint!  I am leaning toward keeping the original color scheme.
