You never said the car was a bench seat column auto.....That's pretty rare and unique for an AAR  :2thumbs:

I have to admit I saw this within the first minute of looking at the car peeking through a rolled-down slit in the otherwise heavily dust covered window--column shift auto and bench seat, but wrongly thought it was not desirable, probably because it is not the way "I" would have ordered it. I never thought about rare and unique. I then remember opening the hood and seeing FC7 and JOB on the fender tag which sent a chill down my body, and at the same time greatly diminished my negotiating skills.

So will you keep it that way once restored ? There's probably only about 60 or so know to exist...

Huh... That's good news for me.  That's what's in my garage being worked on.  Bench seat, column shift , fe5, numbers matching.

warranty tag w/rivet. Your block has a VIN so it can't be a warranty assembly. Unfortunately, it's that simple.

I was told the following story by one of the techs on the Direct Connection tech line back in the early 70's.  True? :dunno:

After NASCAR banned the Hemi (or at least limited its fuel allocation) and the big teams went to small blocks, but there was not yet a race block from Chrysler.  So, the story goes, Petty Enterprises bought up a bunch of AARs and T/As just for the T/A blocks, which were much stronger.  They put the engines back together with stock 340 blocks and resold the cars.

This, of course raises the question: Didn't the factory have any six pack blocks to give to Petty?  I think NASCAR went to small blocks in 1972, so maybe there weren't any left.  First race block was '75.

Yeah, no warranty tag. Oh well.

I know where there is a T/A block factory replacement, no VIN stamped.  Had the tag for replacement but broke off.  Let me know if interested.

Is it possible that boudin got one of the resold Petty cars with the standard 340 that was reinstalled?  Everything else matches.  That would be wild!

Some things too that I didn't see mentioned...

There are a few replacement blocks I have seen that have had the date which they were replaced stamped on them (Done at the dealer)

Also your car is a cool car with the auto on column bench seat but it isn't that rare. The more info that has been sent in and collected has shown there are more cars with this option than people think. Most people converted these cars early on. And without fender tag or broadcast sheet info for the cars on the registry its hard to tell which ones had and didn't. Generally they were built in clusters with similar options and colors. Some parts on the registry list show a run of 6 but there are some gaps between numbers. so its possible there was a run of 10 or more. This happens twice on the list. Then there are smaller groupings of 3 and 5.
Dont forget to register your AAR at the AAR Registry only at www.transamcuda.com 1981 AAR's on file. Also info on 70 thru 74 E-Bodies. Ask me about yours!!

Hey everyone. I am looking at an AAR that too has a warranty replacement block. There is a blue tag same as the one pictured above. The blue tag this car has is stamped 0298. When I go to look at this car should it have a TA block with no vin stamped? Or could it just be a 340 with no Vin?

Also, it should have the offset rockers if it was a warranty short block correct?
Thanks!

Here is a pic of the Warranty tag that is part of the car's documentation. Does the 0298 mean anything? I'm really hoping its a TA warranty block, what are the changes of it being a TA block over a normal 340 block?
