360 Magnum for ´72 Challenger?
« on: May 19, 2015 - 05:26:23 AM »
Hey guys,

Here´s another question regarding engines and I would appreciate your input.  :feedback:

I´m considering replacing the 318 in my ´72 Challenger with a 90´s 360 Magnum. Bad idea?
That stock engine has pretty much what i´m looking for in terms of hp & torque.

I wanna run a carb and found the 360 Magnum carb conversion kit at jegs.com

What´s needed:
Carb conversion kit (http://www.jegs.com/p/Mopar-Performance/Mopar-Performance-59L-Magnum-Carburetor-Conversion-Kit/2872455/10002/-1)
Intake manifolds
Carb
Harmonic balancer and flexplate
Car sump

According to what i´ve read, this would work fine with the original 904, right?

Any ideas about this? Anything else to consider?
Should i just forget about this idea? :)

Thanks!

That will work.
Basic bolt in as long as the engine is not from a Dakota , you will need a balanced torque converter

Thanks!
Any cam recommendations? I've got a feeling that a truck cam won't be optimal for a daily driver/cruise night car with the occasional burnout? :)

My plan is to pick up a 90's 360 Magnum from a scrapyard when in the U.S. later this year and ship home.
You can find them here as well but they're still around $3000 so sending one across the pond will be a cheaper solution as I need to pick up some more stuff for it as well before it's in the car.

They use a hyd roller cam , Lunati makes a number of hyd rollers so you can discuss with them what would be ideal , you should be able to reuse the lifters etc from the production engine but you would need matching springs .

Get the flex plate with the engine. 3 out of 4 holes line up perfectly. The 4th hole will line up with the converter with a little bit of work with the rat tail file. I did this swap years ago. The B and M flex plate made to swap a magnum to an old converter, was not weighted right, always had a shake. I swapped to a stock 5.9 magnum plate, and the vibration was gone. The stock cam makes it feel like a good running 383, till the tach hits 4 grand, then the party is over.
