Shocking problem????? - Update!

Hey Jas, is the rear spring just too stiff?  If you left an extra leaf, it might be tying up the spring too much.  I have some XV level 1 springs in my cuda.  Initially they were touching on the rear frame because I have them moved inboard a bit.  Even now if I bounce on it sitting in the garage, it barely moves at all.  XV said their springs were supposed to be softer than stock to match the XV front torsion bars.  Just bouncing on it doesn't really seem to matter as much as driving it.  My car feels great when its moving.  Good shocks are just that.  It is the first thing I change on my motorcycles to make them faster.  Spend the cash.  Its worth it.

when the car was lifted you would have the opposite problem with the stock shocks where there would be no upward travel so I would bet longer shocks were installed

Drive it with no shocks at all and see if the noise goes away

Or, disconnect the shock at the bottom and see how much up travel there is before it bottoms out.

It isn't uncommon for the rear suspension to move 4+ inches in travel. If you shock only has 2" of extra travel beyond its static position, then it becomes a suspension stop.

200# leaf springs are pretty stout. If you haven't pushed it hard in a corner yet, be prepared for it to be tail happy when you do.

I think I found the issue...popped both shocks off the bottom tonight and they both have all kinds of travel, both up and down.

So climbed under the car a little further and looked up, the rear end was literally resting on the electric fuel pump that I installed on the rear shock crossmember. Hey there was lots of clearance last year.  I am sure that is the problem.

So I pulled the electric pump off tonight (I have a manual pump as well).  Just need to hook the fuel line back up, check for leaks and we should be good to go.

The shocks are still 20 years old, and will likely need the be replaced, but they are not a huge priority, but we will see after the next spin.

Just dropped the car back down...and yeah, much better, the rear actually has some bounce now!!!  Still stiff, but that's ok.

Cant wait to take it for a spin this weekend and see how it works.
