70 Challenger R/T
« on: July 09, 2015 - 05:19:51 PM »
I am looking for ideas on price for my car.
I have for sale a 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T numbers matching. This has been a project for the past 8 years and I know longer have the time or energy to continue with it. The car is completely striped down and is ready for body and paint. almost all components of the car have been restored from the dash which was done by just Dashes to the steering column which was done by Jules. 383 Magnum engine has been rebuilt. Carb rebuilt by Harms, Instrument cluster rebuilt  , trim , bumpers, seats, wiper motor, wiper blades, starter, to many to mention all. The car was a Sacramento Ca car and as such has very little rust. .
Plum Crazy with White vinyl top and white Longitudinal stripe. All numbers matching, Magnum 500 wheels. 383 magnum, automatic
Or should I sell it by the pieces?
I am ready to sell but want to make the price right

Going o be a hard sell in pieces.
If you have the time and patience, these cars are worth 3-4x piecemeal.
As I'm sure you're ,he sum of the parts FAR exceeds the whole.

Yup.. You take a severe beating selling in project status, it sounds like a really cool car & would be a shame to not finish it, but if you have any hopes of getting most of your money back you need to either finish it or part it out... Sucks but thats the reality of the situation..

Additional pictures will help asses the value. Running, gear, and any other pictures. I agree that selling parts would not be in your best interest. You will sell some of the higher demand parts and leave you with a lot of others that are common and seldom sell. If you separate the motor and tranny from the car, then it is no longer numbers matching and worth even less.

There are always buyers looking for a project like this. It is quite complete and does not carry the price of a finished car. Lots of buyers have the money for an entry level project, but the finished cars put several on the sidelines

Selling parts will maximize his return, it's not in the buyers best interest but it is in his...

It's an 1970 E body performance model most of the parts will sell

No way I'd separate the engine & trans

There are always buyers looking for a project like this. It is quite complete and does not carry the price of a finished car. Lots of buyers have the money for an entry level project, but the finished cars put several on the sidelines

You've spent allot of money with the right vendors, If you can't find a buyer that places value in those components then sell the body engine & trans as a unit, & offer the buyer first right of refusal on the restored components but don't get beat down cause someone wants a deal.. You have parts that retain strong value...

You have done such a beautiful job on restoring this car and taken the high road on making decisions on how to restore individual parts that I really am sorry you feel the need to sell at this point in the restoration.  Mark and I had a discussion about this kind of problem today.  Unfortunately, the day you buy a new part or restore an old part, that part is worth less than what you paid for it.  That is just the way things generally work.  If I buy a brand new part for $1,000.00, it is very hard to sell it for $1,000.00.  Why should they pay me $1,000.00 for the part when they could get it from the original seller for that price.  They would want a "deal".  I'm afraid there is no "good" way to do this.  Consdering the level of time and effort it would take to "part out"  the project I would at least try to sell it as a full project first.   :2cents:

Any way you go, I wish you the best of luck.  :2thumbs:

And while we are at it, I'm looking for a good roller.

Two years ago I bought a completely matching #'s A66, 4 speed Challenger that had a lot of nice quality parts as well, I paid $18k for it, oh yeah the body and paint was done. This year I bought a U-code, 70 Challenger R/T SE, 4 speed car with all components, matching #'s 4 speed, Dana 60 etc. this car had a lot of high quality resto parts with it as well, I paid $30k, oh yeah the Az. body was done and painted.
Even though both of these cars were complete I still had to buy $15k-$20k of parts to complete each of them but I tend to buy way nicer parts than are needed when I do a car (like $9k into the heads on the orange car for instance).
Hope this helps.
