Question about bumper jacks
« on: June 02, 2015 - 12:20:14 PM »
I have a correct base and hook for my Challenger but have had no luck in finding date correct jacking mechanism and post.

Question: For the year 1969, I am only concerned with the bumper jack mechanism and the post, are those the same between the A, B, C and E bodies?

Thanks

The mast lengths will most likely be different.  Since it's most likely just for "show", you could just leave it long.  It probably wouldn't be noticeable unless you stuck your head inside the trunk and really looked.

In that era did the big three all use essentially the same jack? I have a couple in the shed that are just sitting there. They would likely need restoring but they might work for somebody. One might have come out of a Duster, really don't recall.

I just checked and the old one that is just sitting around is exactly the same as the one in my Challenger but not quite as good of condition. Complete unit including base and lug wrench.

Can you see a date code on the jacking mechanism? I am looking for 9J (Oct 1969) or 9K (Nov 1969)

You need a jack with a "T" mast.  A 73 Challenger will have a hollow "tube" mast.

That base is for the "T" mast.  That's what you want.  I'm assuming "blown motor" has the hollow style mast on his 74.  Late 71?-74 have a different style mast.
