External resistor for coil ???
« on: June 17, 2015 - 09:06:10 AM »
I removed an external resistor mounted to the coil  mounting bracket and connected to one of the posts on the coil of my 383. Putting it back together I can't remember which post it goes on + or - ??? I think it's the negative but want to be sure.

I think he's talking about the AM radio capacitor that mounts to one of the coil bracket bolts.  I think that gets attached to the + side.  I'm researching it now.  I know the tach wire gets connected to the - side.

Edit...It does go on the + side of the coil.  It's there to prevent noise in the AM radios...nothing else.

The coil is marked "Must use external resistor" and it had one mounted. If it's just for radio noise no problem I won't need it What's a radio for??? Can you really hear it over a Big Block at W.O.T.???

The ballast resistor is for the coil.  The small capacitor on the coil is for the radio.

Radio would require a positive connection.
