« on: May 22, 2015 - 04:36:06 PM »
decided to keep trying to tune my qf hr680 bought a jet kit, air bleed kit and cam assortment.  Finally hooked up the afr so heres my info and dilemma.  dilemma is idles nicely around 920 at 16* afr reads 12.2 but without bumping the gas stalls when you drop it in gear.  340 airgap intake lunati cam 60403 valvelift 494/513 lobe 329 342, adv dur 271/279  dur @.50 226/234  carb quick fuel hr 680 iab 72/hsb 28 primary jets 70 secondary 74  did msnsge to run it up the street and afr reads 15.1 @ 30 mph  no tach. do have the transitions on secondary turned down to a small square can even close it more.   power valve is 6.5  what are the suggestions to do with this,  jet down 2 sizes?   increase the air bleeds?     this got me stumped but then again i'm  no carb expert    help  :feedback:   :1zhelp:

way rich at idle. You said you have the secondaries closed so only a small bit of transition slot is showing. What about the primaries? They need to show the same exposure as the rears. Sounds like primaries may be open too far so the motor will idle. If they are the same as the rear, you need to go to larger idle air bleeds. IE you need more air at idle. What is vacuum at idle in gear? may need a lower power valve. Does this carb have adjustable secondary idle mixture screws?

I would bump up idle to around 1100 to see if it will run in gear then adjust idle in gear to 800.

convertor is a tci breakaway 24/2600  vac in n is a steady 14   ill have to check the in gear, it drops to 11  yes all 4 corners have adjustable mix screws and all are set out to about 1-1/4-1/2 turn out.    ill jump the iabs up to 76 and take it from there,
it wont stall if I bump the throttle while shifting  then will run but is sluggish, in d  however reverse kills it instantly
so this is my weekend project  :working: and there is a hesitation when I hit the throttle and vac drops way down to about 5 for a millisecond then recovers.

finally had a chance to get back to this nightmare.  so I raised the I a b's to 72, dropped the primary jets to 68 reset the transition slot on the secondary side to .25  was around .50.   now it idles at 16.7* and 1080 rpm,   and 15" vac.  in gear timing stays the same,   idle speed drops to 840 vac drops to 11" and afr reads 13.8.  so I think im getting closer,   suggestions anyone?

I would not have said the car was that rich as the bigger the cam, the more fuel it takes to get a decent idle in many cases....atomization is not that good at low rpm.

When the car is idling in Drive and you brake stall the converter, are you getting 2400 rpm or so against the brake before the rear tires try to turn?  I have that cam and it needed a faster idle with a converter that was stalling around 1700 rpm, but with a 2500 rpm stall, it idles very easily now.

I would try turning the idle speed up a bit and see if that solves the problem as suggested above.
