This dealer install A/C under dash unit is mint NOS. I got it from a parts lot I picked up last year. It is in the 1970/1971 parts accessory catalogue on Barry's Hamtramck site.

I was thinking of using it in the Cuda. But I'm surprised how big it is. It appears there is only one spot it could possibly fit and it looks too big there even.

Where these meant for any car Chrysler offered?

Has anybody installed one of these?

Should I paint it portola red like the interior panels and use it? Or keep it black?

Should I use it at all?

Any input is appreciated... Please let me know if the link works.

I would use it for trading stock, just like how you got it. The generic AC units were not designed for any specific vehicle, but as a one size fits all, and we all know how that works or rather doesn't work.

So how bad do you really want AC? One could install all OEM components and have a factory look. Not cheap, but keeps an original appearance. There are some newer setups that would look better than the ugly rectangular unit.

One other option is to find an original "true" dealer add on. It has a very thin profile and runs under the dash and has the contour of the bottom of the dash frame. I have only seen one in my several years of looking at cars. I think I still have your contact info Tom and will attempt to send you a picture of it.

Yes, the unit I have is one size fits all and is rather ill fitting. Such a shame because it's brand new even though it's from 1971.

A pic would be good of other types of units. I would like. To air condition this car eventually. So I would like to see what  my options are

Tom, sent you some pictures via email. Can send some more if you want. Hopefully some others will chime in on their installs of AC systems in their e-bodies, as I have seen others posts sometime back. I figured out how to do it here and posted the one full picture.

That is very interesting. I have never seen one quite like it. It looks like it would fit nicely under the dash. I think the one I have is destined to be put on display in the man cave

I actually need to concentrate on getting the car on the road. Air Conditioning will be a project for next summer.

However, it is time to start educating myself on the best way to go.  :2thumbs:
