Green axle bearings
« on: June 27, 2015 - 03:42:18 AM »
Hi I am swapping the poor old factory rear 8 3/4 axle bearing .With the green bearing. My question is would it or does it matter if I do not remove the old seal in the housing ? Could I just leave it there ? This has come about because I want to replace the wheel studs from LH to RH thread

yes you can leave them in place, not going to hurt anything at all. Why move away from the factory adjustable??

Dont get me wrong either, I have a set to install once I finish the rear disc brake conversion as it will pick the critical few mm I  need for tire clearance etc.

When I got his car there were some new parts that came with it. So I pull the axle to remove the  studs and the old bearing looked stuffed  f,,,,,d if you like . So I am still open in which way to go . But I do have them at hand , cheers.

While some people have good results with green brgs over the long term others do not , it is simple physics that the factory tapered brgs will withstand side load far better & other than neglect / lack of grease or impact when was the last time anyone heard of a factory tapered brg failure

I've had Moser green bearings in my car since 2006,and have put close to 20,000 miles on them with zero problems. If you aren't going out road racing your not going to have any issues with these.

On my Charger I put enough side pressue on the brgs to bend the lock tab & unthread the adjuster using tapered roller brgs so no way I am using green brgs
