Adhesive for closed cell foam
« on: July 20, 2015 - 11:08:12 AM »
I'm trying to make some lens pouches. I got a roll of closed cell foam from REI, and it's pretty easy to work with. Now I need to be able to glue it some way that's going to last through an earthquake. Any suggestions?

Will that stuff actually melt the surfaces together, like a weld?

No, but the foam around the glue will tear before the glue separates.....  It's used by most Upholstery shops to glue stuff, except the ones in California cause we aren't supposed to be able to buy it here...  You apply it to both pieces, wait till it drys, you can touch it & it'll have no tackiness, then put the pieces together... be careful cause soon as they touch you don't get a second chance...

One other thing, before you apply glue lightly sand the foam with 80 grit to expose fresh foam..

I'm actually cutting it into several shapes and gluing the cut edges, so it'll be pretty fresh.
