Sounds like you'll be totally screwed.  Looks like fraud to me.  I don't think just because you sign a paper saying Mecum not liabie for "misrepresentation", gives a company the green light to commit fraud.

Wow, Dana should be ashamed of this crap.

Heck it would be funny to see somebody running around a Mecum auction with "FRAUD" stickers.

  • I'm working on it - No, really
If you sign with a literary or film agent they have you sign a statement to the effect that you can't sue them if they happen to represent something similar to what you've given them. It's pretty much meaningless. You can still sue them, signed statement notwithstanding. This may be much the same.

I have a car buddy who sold his Daytona at one of the big auctions and from what he said, you the seller are at their mercy. His car was sold and bought by the auctioneer company for way less than what it should have. Supposedly it did not go accross the stage at a very good time.

Also, he said the contract he signed was thicker than an LA phone book.

I have heard similar form a guy who sells Corvettes all the time. From what I have heard, I am not sure I would use any of them under any circumstances.  :nono: :nono: :nono: :stomp:

Illegitimate dealings or not it sure sounds SHADY.. Seems to me the MECUM bunch would of been better off calling the deal off rather than opening themselves up to what has to be BAD Publicity at best.

Reminds me of EXACTLY why I haven't even considered buying a GM vehicle since 1989.. Screw me once, shame on you.......

If Mecum was told that a bogus car was sold, why would they still INSIST on the winner of the auction to follow through?

Are they THAT friggin greedy that they need the buyer's and seller's commission?  To hell w/the buyer who's getting a fake car?

A guy was promised a time slot and 3 minutes on stage at BJ auctions years ago. His car was whisked away at a low price. He confronted Craig Jackson and told to take a hike-it was going to court until BJ found out the guy was a federal judge. Don't know what happened.
