And you (Alan) chase cars with sheets because of that value yet in this same thread you tell the man to have one reproduced.... 

My take, If the buyer cares about having a sheet he probably knows enough to spot a fake.....  Personally I drive my cars & really couldn't give a crap about a sheet....

Thing is there is a certain group of "Collectors" who flat out won't buy a car without a sheet... There are plenty of collectors who are content with just a fender tag or just a sheet... Then there are lots of us who just enjoy the cars & don't let the other stuff get in the way..... Not to say none of us pay attention, I started learning codes in the early 80's, got serious about it in the late 80's & quit being so anal retentive around the late 90's... Figured out it's allot more fun to turn that crap off.....

Yes I recommended him buying a sheet, but strictly as a novelty, it adds ZERO value to the car just like the reproduction window stickers....zero value....like having an artist draw a picture of your car because you want one....nothing wrong with that. He wants to spend the money, it's his choice...no harm done in my opinion.

NOW...if he tries to pass it off as an original....that's his issue...

Most collectors, as mentioned will pay more for a car with the sheet, how much depends on what the car is...

yes, novelty was all I was thinking, nothing else, rest assured I will not be passing anything on about this car as OEM or NOS unless I can document it to the buyer because frankly, that is not how I roll, I think those of you I have done business with (purchasing/selling) from this forum can verify that, and besides, if I would ever want to sell this car then I would hope the buyer(s) would not allow me to get away with any crap anyways

Yeah, no questioning your integrity, but unfortunately the integrity of the person who buys your car might not be as good...

Case in point, back in the early 90's a good friend of mine restored a TX9 440-6 4spd 70 Roadrunner, the original engine was long gone.... He had the machine shop stamp his cars VIN in the replacement block & trans... He disclosed it when he sold the car, I was there & witnessed it.... Years later it was for sale on the internet and naturally it was advertised as numbers matching...

Was your car built in Los angles? or 5th digit E. it is my understanding that these cars would not have A build sheet. I don't know why but that is what I was told.

LA built cars can have BCs in them as well, they are just not common versus hamtrack built cars. my LA built Barracuda came with one ..... but it was for another B5/B5 slant6 @ 300 #s after mine. not that it matters ... it's still only a slant 6, lol.

I think if you had "repro sheet" or something like that stamped on the repro sheet it would be fine and protect yourself later on.

Personally I do not put much more value for a car with a broadcast sheet as they have been getting reproduced for years. I think the best documentation is having a good history on the car and if lucky being able to contact and speak to all previous owners. Many of these older owners may still have pictures of the car when they owned it. I know this is not always possible but this is really the only way you will ever know what your car really is. Today if you have enough coin you can even have a VIN tag made.
