slapstick 1970 vs 1971
« on: June 13, 2015 - 06:42:02 PM »
Hi
I'm thinking about putting a slapstick shifter in my  1970 Challenger.
When I'm looking at ebay I realised it´s a 1970 version and a 1971-1974 version.
What´s the differencen between them ?
When I bought this car back in1982 it was slapshift in it but a changed it to a 4-speed then and then back to automatic with aftermarket shifter.
So it´s not because I want original setup .

Anyone that has som picture of something that show the difference or can explain it to ?

1970 used a ball shifter.
1971-73 used a "T" handle shifter
1974 used a ball shifter.
I've taught you everything you know.....but I haven't taught you everything I know !

So it's just the shifterknob that's differtent then.
If I want a pistol grip does that fit any modell ?
And how does the "reverse knob" work on that version ?

The whole shifter is totally different between the ball & T handle but both will bolt in & work just fine you just need a complete matching assy
Pistol grip are all aftermarket . Steve / Quapman on this site sells the best one IMO , it has a trigger for reverse & leans forward like the 4 spd , some are straight which are uncomfotable in 1st gear & some you have to lift the whole handle for the detent override
