Crank sprocket Retard/Advance

I think I know the answer but just wanted to be sure before I put on the timing cover.

I've never had one of these fancy  :lol: crank sprockets.  I don't believe I want any retard or advancement, so I'm just going to set it at 0.  I'm assuming that I put the inner 0 on the key on the crank, and then use the outer 0 to line it up with the crank sprocket?

correct ....... but if you have the equipment I would degree the cam in as the cam can be ground as much as 11* off in my experience so setting it at zero may not net 0

Thanks for the advice, I do not have a degree kit but a buddy of mine does so i'll try to get his help within the next week.

Another thing i'm curious about is on all the GM motors i've built, the 0 indicator was right on one of the sprocket tips.  This one seems to be in the middle of the tips of some sort so i'm guessing if it lines up right in the middle or on one of the tips.

I'm going to degree it anyways however i was just curious.  I have it installed now just making sure everything fits.  Also I don't plan on running these bolts, I got a set of the ARP bolts on the way.

the Keyway position determines where the teeth align , no big deal as long as he dots line up , the tooth position is irrelevant

you're good, because if one chain link off, it would be much more out of line.
72 Cuda, owned 25 years. 496, with ported Stage VI heads, .625 in solid roller, 254/258 at .050, 3500 stall, 3.91 rear. 850 Holley DP, Reverse manual valve body.

1999 Trans Am, LS1, heads, cam, headers, stall, etc! Love to surprise the rice rockets with this one. They seem so confident, then it's "what the heck just happened?"

It's a double roller from summit racing.

I didn't see any kind of thrust plate for the cam, am I missing something?  How does the cam stay put without moving?

the oil pump drive puts pressure on the cam pulling it rearward in the block , the timing gear rides on the front face of the block
