Resto of these emblems has been discussed earlier and after reading Robs restoration thread, i decided to go for mine.
I forgot to take pics of my emblems before i started but the fender emblems had lost resin and paint so they looked just like chromed emblems.
The trunk lock emblem still had paint and yellowed resin. I brought the emblem to the hobby shop in order to find matching paint. The blue color i got quite close, the red has in direct sunlight a little bit too much orange.
The lady in the shop suggested porcelain paint due to the smooth finish of chrome, ordinary acrylic paint will probably not stick.
Back home i cleaned the fender emblems with laquer thinner. The trunk emblem i let soak in thinner overnight hoping that it would soften up the resin. Did not work, still hard as a rock.
Googled the topic and learned that heat is the solution. So, out with the heat gun and yes, it came off easily. Once the resin was off, i let the emblem soak in thinner a couple of hours and then brushed off the remaining color with thinner and a tooth brush.
Time to apply the paint. As said in another thread, use a thin artists brush, a steady hand and patience...
I learned that trying to brush on the paint just got messy. Instead i placed drops of paint in an even pattern all over the different sections avoiding to drop paint too close to the edges and corners.
Waited a couple of minutes to let the paint level out, placed some more paint, waited etc until i had a nice even layer of paint.
Let it dry 4 hours as per instructions on the paint bottle, waited until the wife left the house and then went into the kitchen. Baked the emblems in the oven for 30 minutes at 130 C (or whatever that is in Fahrenheit).
I am very happy with the result. With the emblems back on, its a new car!
Bad thing is now that my Barracuda emblems starts to look dull......
