Valve Cover Oil Leakage
« on: October 12, 2015 - 03:23:34 AM »
On my MT finned valve covers, finally figured out why I was always seeping oil on the driver side. And its
not that the valve cover was not flat.  If you turn the valve cover upside down, the metal around the two holes (the holes that would be closest
to the headers if installed) was higher than the the rest of the metal ridge on the valve cover that sealed
against the head. So, it did not make a diff how much I torqued down on the valve cover bolts,
or what gasket I tried. Ended up grinding off about 1/16 inch deep of the metal around the two holes, and
now sealing real well, with no leakage. The metal on all the other holes was already flush with the sealing
surface of the valve cover. Valve cover oil seapage has to be one of the most common issues
we deal with it seems.

1999 Trans Am, LS1, heads, cam, headers, stall, etc! Love to surprise the rice rockets with this one. They seem so confident, then it's "what the heck just happened?"
