Tried to buy correct big block power steering pump, is this one?
« on: October 24, 2015 - 05:44:09 PM »
Next piece in the puzzle to swap from manual to power steering on the wife's 1971 R/T Challenger is a power steering pump.

Engine is a 440 Six Pack.

I've been researching them for awhile and am confused as I've seen a number of variations.

I just bough this one that's supposed to be off a 66-67 383 big block.

I've been told the pumps are them same for big and small block but I've seen the low pressure return nipple in various location on the back of the pump. :clueless:
Some go out at 9 o'clock and some appear to face 11 o'clock.

In pricing new pumps, pulley and nut, cap, big block brackets, and hardware kits adding everything up it gets rather $$$$$
This one is pretty clean, turns freely and is complete.
With a little cleaning and repaint it should look and work great but is it correct for a big block?

Thanks for any advice.

The pump that you purchased looks exactly the same as the one on my 1970 V code Challenger. Only diferrence is the cap. Mine is metal and looks like a small rad cap.
